Why a 3-litre tin

The same oil. Almost half the price per litre.

A 750 ml bottle looks beautiful on the table. But if you cook with good olive oil every day, with a bottle you are mostly paying for glass and packaging. The 3-litre tin holds exactly the same oil — you just pay considerably less per litre.

One 3-litre tin equals four 750 ml bottles. The tin keeps light out, which protects the oil for longer than glass on the worktop.

Centuries-old olive trees in the olive grove near Monopoli
Sicarico, Monopoli — Puglia

Centuries-old trees, harvested by hand

Our olive grove lies in Sicarico, near Monopoli in Puglia. The olives are hand-harvested from centuries-old trees and cold-pressed within hours — the shorter the time between tree and press, the fresher the oil. Those trees provide our entire harvest, which is why this is one oil from one grove.

No middlemen. No blending. The oil that comes from our trees is the oil that arrives at your home.

A supermarket bottle labelled "oil from the European Union" can contain oil from four countries, blended into a flavour profile that stays the same all year round. Our oil changes slightly with each harvest. That is how it should be.

Frequently asked questions

What you'll want to know before you order

How long will 3 litres of olive oil last me?
That depends on how you cook. For comparison: 3 litres is four 750 ml bottles. If you cook Italian every day and also use the oil for frying, it will last you several months; if you only use it over salad and bread, considerably longer.
Does olive oil keep well in a tin?
A tin is better for olive oil than clear glass: it keeps light out completely, and light, together with heat, is the main cause of quality loss. Store the tin somewhere cool and dark, and if you like, decant a small jug for everyday use.
What is the difference between Essenziale and Il Quotidiano?
Both are extra virgin olive oil from our own olive grove in Puglia. Essenziale is cold-pressed, unblended and made without hurry — full and balanced, with grassy notes, a hint of green almond and a light peppery finish. Il Quotidiano has a softer, more approachable flavour and is made to be used generously every day, at a lower price per litre.
What exactly does "cold-pressed" mean?
It means the olives are pressed mechanically without added heat. Heat increases the yield, but breaks down flavour compounds and polyphenols. Cold pressing gives less oil per olive and is therefore more expensive — it is the reason our oil tastes the way it does.
Can I taste it first before buying a 3-litre tin?
Yes. Essenziale is also available as a 750 ml bottle for €24 — exactly the same oil as in the 3-litre tin. Please note that orders under €50 have €7 shipping costs.
Where does the oil come from?
From our own olive grove in Sicarico, near Monopoli in Puglia. The olives are hand-harvested from centuries-old trees and cold-pressed within hours. The oil is not blended with oil from anywhere else.
